Waiting On Wednesday: Half Bad (Sally Green)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blogging event hosted by Breaking the Spine, in which one spotlights an upcoming release they are eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Half Bad (Half Life, #1)
Title: Half Bad
Author: Sally Green
Release Date: March 4, 2014
Summary (from Goodreads):

A stunning, magical debut. An international sensation.

In modern-day England, witches live alongside humans: White witches, who are good; Black witches, who are evil; and fifteen-year-old Nathan, who is both. Nathan’s father is the world’s most powerful and cruel Black witch, and his mother is dead. He is hunted from all sides. Trapped in a cage, beaten and handcuffed, Nathan must escape before his sixteenth birthday, at which point he will receive three gifts from his father and come into his own as a witch—or else he will die. But how can Nathan find his father when his every action is tracked, when there is no one safe to trust—not even family, not even the girl he loves?

In the tradition of Patrick Ness and Markus Zusak, Half Bad is a gripping tale of alienation and the indomitable will to survive, a story that will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page.

Why I'm Looking Forward To ItI've been mildly interested in this book for a while, but it wasn't until I came across the excerpt a few days ago and discovered it's written in Second Person that it has became an obsession (check out the awesome excerpt for yourself here!). Second Person POV novels are pretty rare - one has never crossed my path, actually - and I haven't gone looking for them because 2P is extremely hard to do well. I'd never even read anything 2P until my college class (currently underway), and that was a short story (an awesome short story, btw). So now that I know Half Bad is 2P? I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THIS OMG.

So what book are you waiting on?

  1. I tried writing in second person once and quit before I made it past chapter 2. It was HARD.

I didn't know this one was 2nd POV. Now I am more interested than before.
