Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week's topic:

Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read

1. Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)

Most Known For:
Throne of Glass Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Definitely
Why/Why Not:
This is one of those series that I just haven't gotten around to yet. But soon.

2. Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl

Most Known For:
Fangirl
Will I Read Eventually:
Probably
Why/Why Not:
Fangirl looks cute. Don't know if I'll read anything else by her, though.

3. Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

Most Known For:
Shatter Me Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Maybe
Why/Why Not:
These sound like they're going to be a little too steamy for me, but I might try her eventually. We'll see.

4. Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, # 1)

Most Known For:
Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Maybe
Why/Why Not:
This just isn't really my sort of read. But who knows, I may be in the mood for it one day.

5. Leigh Ann Kopans

One (One Universe, #1)

Most Known For:
One Universe Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Yes
Why/Why Not:
I rarely read self-published authors, but everyone swears by her. I have an ARC of Solving For Ex that I hope to get to soon, and her One Universe Series sounds right up my alley.

6. Rae Carson

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1)

Most Known For:
Fire and Thorns Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Yes
Why/Why Not:
Another series I just haven't gotten around to yet. But soon!

7. George R.R. Martin

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)

Most Known For:
A Song of Ice and Fire Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Never Ever Ever
Why/Why Not:
(1) They are too thick. (2) They have dozens of POV characters. (3) The chapters (heck, the books) are not in linear order. (4) General ick subject matter. (5) Etc.

8. Stephen King

Carrie

Most Known For:
Carrie
Will I Read Eventually:
Probably Not
Why/Why Not:
I have read pieces of his book, On Writing, but I'm generally not one for creepy stories. Or for him in general.

9. Cassandra Clare

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

Most Known For:
The Mortal Instruments Series
Will I Read Eventually:
Heck No
Why/Why Not:
I tried to start City of Bones and couldn't even make it through the first scene without laughing, yelling "This can't be serious!" and almost throwing the book across the room.

10. John Green

The Fault in Our Stars

Most Known For:
The Fault in Our Stars
Will I Read Eventually:
Doubtful
Why/Why Not:
I just can't take most straight contemporary stories, especially ones concerning depressing subjects. I don't care how beautifully written it is, I'm just too easily depressed and won't risk it.

What popular authors have you never read?

  2. Most of these, plus Veronia Rossi (but she's on my list!).

  3. I need to read Throne of Glass too! Also you need to read Rae Carson's books right now. You'd love them so much! Also, I don't really like straight contemporary either, but I just read TFiOS and fell in love with John Green's writing. Honestly, I think you'd really really like his stuff. It is beautifully written, but it's also laugh out loud funny and super snarky, yet still tame and tasteful! I really think you should give him a try.

    My TTT

  4. I'm pretty new to YA, so there are still a lot I haven't read. I have read Tahereh Mafi, just finished the third in her series, and it's definitely steamy. I tried City of Bones, too, but couldn't make it more than halfway. I hear good things about her other series, though, so I might give Cassandra Clare another try.

I keep seeing The Fault in our Stars everywhere, and might give that a try one of these days.

  5. 1. I heard about this a long time ago, and I was immediately drawn by the fact that the romance didn't seem to be as heavy as other YA books out at the time. I could be wrong, but I still think it's promising. I'm gonna read it.
    2. Wanna read this so badly! I used to be a fangirl! Embarrassing but truuue.
    3. The blurb didn't hook me so.... nnnno.

    4. Oooooo... ever heard of this!
    5. This looks AMAZING. It sounds a lot like a fic I'm writing now though which makes me nervous a little bit, maybe I didn't develop it to be original enough... =/
    6. I've heard of this!! Already in wish list.

    7. LMAO!! I loved your response!!
I read GOT years and years ago, and I couldn't help but love the fantasy element because I am a fantasy fan. I completely understand why people don't like it though. The once-mentioned character made it a bit confusing and the graphic scene were, personally, embarrassing for me to read (I think I was like, 13 or something.). But it doesn't something with the fantasy genre that i haven't really found from any other characters, which is through in unpredictability - like real life. You can never guess what's gonna happen and, infamously, who's gonna die next.

    8. Although I know how amazing King is, I don't think I can read this. It would be too depressing for me right now.
    9. Oh wow!!! I just finished watching the film. I say 'watching', but I was distracted and skipped through a lot of it because it bored me. It was exactly how I expected it to be but I watched it anyway, God knows why!!! Plus I'd watched Catching Fire the day before which was of high standard in terms to complexity so... no. I hate to say it, but no. =(

    10. I wasn't going to read this book as I am also very easily depressed by certain topics (hence not reading Carrie) but another blogger, Zoe, swore by this book and I generally trust her judgement so I think I'll give it a try. I'm building myself up for it though, I don't wanna fall to pieces halfway through.

This was sooo interesting, thank you!
And I can't WAIT to read One!!

    1. ^ Oh bloody hell. I wrote that much?
      Sorry dude! >.<

    2. 5. I know exactly what you mean about a book releasing that sounds way too much like what you're currently writing - had a few of those myself. :P But don't give it much thought - the premise may sound the same, but they always turn out to be wildly different than they initially seem. No two writers write exactly the same, so no two stories are exactly the same!
      9. Saw the movie myself and was pretty bored too - so glad I didn't try to stick it out with the book. XP
      10. Reviewers I trust have been telling me the same thing, but I have, like, a hundred other books that I want to read more so they come first. Maybe one day, we'll see.

Haha, no worries about the long comment! I enjoy all your comments, long and short. <3 (And longer comments are usually more fun anyway. ;)

    3. That awful moment when you lose the entire comment you wrote. >.<

Well, here's the gist of it:
I like that TFIOS is an unconventional love story and I'm gonna give it a shot. I really liked this video about it:

Have you heard of the book Half Bad? (I think it's by Sally Green...?) It's looks amazing to me. Can't decide whether to read that or One first!

    4. (Ugh I hate when that happens. XP)

I will admit the love story sounds All The Feels, and I adore ATF love stories, but given the cancer angle I'm convinced the girl dies in the end and I can't handle books that make me love the characters and then lets them die. So even with all the recs, I'm still on the fence. My Sister's Keeper nearly ended me, so I'm planning to even avoid the movie...

I HAVE heard of Half Bad, and it is currently competing with The Winner's Curse to be the first book I read after finishing Strange & Norrell! It's supposed to be dark and pretty brutal, but it's partially told in 2nd Person and I'm dying to try a novel in 2nd Person! I've yet to read One but I've heard really good things about it. Basically your decision is between superpowers or dark brutal magic - I don't think you can go wrong with either, so good luck deciding which you feel more like reading! ;)

    5. ... man that is tough. So tough.
Really!!! I'm writing a short story in second person, it didn't turn out how I expected to but it was a lot of fun. Well in all honesty that's made my mind up - Half Bad it is. Which is fitting as I just bought it today at a huge discount, yess.
I hope Strange & Norrell is going well!

    6. Oh cool! My first foray into Second Person was a short story the professor read in class - I really enjoyed the unique perspective and now I'm excited for more. Let me know what you think of Half Bad!

    7. 'Unique perspective' is definitely the way to put it! I enjoy it because its unusual. It makes the prose sound kinda like a long long letter.

Okay, will do! I decided I'm gonna read it while queueing up for London Super Comic Con on Saturday. I think I'm in for at least an hour wait so I should be able to get through a lot!
