The Friday Review (7/19/13)

Welcome to The Friday Review, a weekly segment where I share what I've been reading!

Rush (The Game, #1)Miss Fortune CookieCity of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

CURRENTLY READING:
Rush by Eve Silver (ARC)
This was my most anticipated read of 2013, and it's turning out to be the worst book I've ever read. I have never been more shocked by a book before. The characters act contrary to their personality and break their own rules, details are over-explained and repeated yet I never really get any actual answers, tension is drowned in infodumping... Needless to say, I'm only finishing this book because I was so determined to read it, but I am a huge ball of anger and frustration at this point.

JUST FINISHED:
Miss Fortune Cookie by Lauren Bjorkman (ARC)
A cute, light, but slow read that would be better suited as a movie. Still, not bad. Review to come.

READING NEXT:
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (Pbk)
I've had no interest to read this book for years, and then Wednesday I was struck with the urge to read it immediately. No idea why. Luckily my library was ready to oblige by processing a brand new copy yesterday! Which was extremely lucky because every old copy was checked out due to the movie hype. Hope it's as good as everyone raves.

The Friday Review (7/12/13)

Welcome to The Friday Review, a weekly segment where I share what I've been reading!

Miss Fortune CookieBlue Exorcist, Vol. 10Rush (The Game, #1)

CURRENTLY READING:
Miss Fortune Cookie by Lauren Bjorkman (ARC)
Needed something light and this definitely fits the bill. It's cute, but kind of slow - hopefully it'll pick up soon.

JUST FINISHED:
Blue Exorcist 10 by Kazue Kato (PBK)
I'm back collecting this series again, and although it's taken another turn for the horrendously long story arc of doom, I really enjoy the originality and characters.

READING NEXT:
Rush by Eve Silver (ARC)
I have been looking forward to this book for over a year - definitely one of my Top 3 most-excited-to-read 2013 releases. I got my copy on a delayed trade though, so it didn't arrive until yesterday afternoon (talk about torture). It'll be a miracle if I make it 24 hours without starting it. I may have actually started it already...

Alienated (Alienated, #1)What We Found in the Sofa and How it Saved the WorldThe Hunt (The Hunt, #1)

CURRENTLY READING:
Alienated by Melissa Landers (ARC - Releases 2/14)
I've been scrambling to get this book for months, and finally Hannah (@inkyreads) was sweet enough to trade for it! (Thank you, Hannah!!! <333) I'm halfway through, and while it isn't exactly what I'd expected, I'm quite enjoying it.

JUST FINISHED:
What We Found In the Sofa and How It Saved the World by Henry Clark
(ARC - Releases 7/13)
For me personally, as an adult who reads young adult, it was too mellow (something I never thought I'd say about a children's book, but there you are). But it was well written and had its fun moments, and I would recommend it to middle grade readers as a fun, quirky adventure story.(And okay, I will admit that I <3 the tessering sofa.)

READING NEXT:
The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda (ARC)
I'm starting to feel the itch for something dark and creepy, and this looks like it'll fit the bill!

Altered (Altered, #1)School SpiritsWhat We Found in the Sofa and How it Saved the World

CURRENTLY READING:
Altered by Jennifer Rush (ARC)
I don't know how I didn't hear about this book before, but it is exactly my kind of book and I am devouring it like nobody's business.

JUST FINISHED:
School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins (ARC)
Rachel and her paranormal world keep getting better and better! A light, easy and super-fun read with a hint of romance and lots of wit. Raving review to come!

READING NEXT:
What We Found In the Sofa and How It Saved the World by Henry Clark
(ARC - Releases 7/13)
Or should I say, finishing next - I hope. I'm in the middle of it right now and keep allowing myself to be distracted by other YA books when it gets too slow. But I plan to finish it!

The Friday Review (6/21/13)

Welcome to The Friday Review, a weekly segment where I share what I've been reading!

Tandem (Many-Worlds, #1)IndigoWhat We Found in the Sofa and How it Saved the World

CURRENTLY READING:
Tandem by Anna Jarzab (ARC - Releases 10/8/13)
Good but long, even though it only takes place over seven days. It has the feel of high fantasy because the parallel world is run by monarchies, but it is definitely more science fiction with its slightly advanced technology.

JUST FINISHED:
Indigo by Gina Linko (ARC - Releases 10/22/13)
DNF halfway through. The story was too much contemporary and too little supernatural for me. In addition, the plot was slow, the description overbearing, and the dialogue lacking. I'm sure many will like it, but I prefer my books with more going on.

READING NEXT:
What We Found In the Sofa and How It Saved the World by Henry Clark
(ARC - Releases 7/13)
After the heavy feel of Tandem, I am desperate for something quick and fun, and what better way to fill the need than with Middle Grade? This sounds so absurd that I think I will like it.

The Friday Review (6/14/13)

Welcome to The Friday Review, a weekly segment where I share what I've been reading!

IndigoThe Shambling Guide to New York CityPremeditated

CURRENTLY READING:
Indigo by Gina Linko (ARC)
It's slow and odd and rather a torture to read, really, but as not many have reviewed it I'm trying to finish. We'll see if I make it, though.

JUST FINISHED:
A rare adult book in my YA world. There was too much language and sex for my tastes, but it had a unique and interesting concept. Review to come.

READING NEXT:
Premeditated by Josin McQuein (ARC)
Totally freaked out when I got this one yesterday! I normally wouldn't have even considered reading it (I'm not much for mysteries), but I absolutely loved Josin's Arclight so how could I not give her new book a try?

The Friday Review (5/31/13)

Welcome to The Friday Review, a new weekly segment where I share what I've been reading!

CURRENT READ
Transparent

I waited too long to review this book and therefore have to read the wonderfully light and fun book again. DARN.

PREVIOUS READ
Just Another Judgement Day (Nightside, # 9)

Had a bit of a book/review burnout, so it was time for a mindless read I wouldn't have to review. My go-to series is Nightside, and what a delightfully dark and delish go-to it is.

NEXT READ
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1)

I rarely know what I'll read next - it always depends on my mood. But after watching The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie for the umpteenth time this weekend, I'm starting to crave the books once more. Although I'll start with Book 1, it's Book 2, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, that's my favorite - sometimes I pull it down just to re-read the talking cow scene. ;)
